Lowestoft Wind Turbine
The long awaited 2.75mW wind power generator at Lowestoft's Ness Point has at last been installed. This wind energy turbine will generate power for 1,500 homes. This Wind power generator is the tallest to be built in Europe. A great step forward for wind power in the region.
SLP Enginering of Lowestoft have installed a wind generator that is the tallest in the UK
The construction of the wind turbine began on Tuesday 7th of December with the lift, utilising a 108m high crane4, of the 71 tonne Tower Lower Section. On Friday 10th of December the 65 tonne Tower Middle Section, 46 tonne Tower Top Section, 83 tonne nacelle and the 54 tonne – 92m diameter Rotor Blades and nose cone were lifted into place

The turbine supplier is Vestas Celtic Wind Technology Ltd and the model is a NM92/2750. This wind turbine can produce up to 2.75MW of power, enough to supply 1530 homes and it is expected to save 6215 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions per year. The wind turbine stands 80m (262ft) to the top of the tower and 126m (413ft) high to the top blade tip, and will provide an icon that will embrace the region’s commitment to sustainable and renewable energy. It will also provide a dynamic landmark for Great Britain’s most easterly cardinal point.

The development is the first commercial scale offshore wind farm in the UK and only the second offshore wind farm in the country. The first was built off the coast of Blyth in Northumberland by a consortium that included Powergen Renewables. Blyth Offshore consists of two 2MW turbines.

Turbines swing into action
All 30 Scroby Sands wind turbines began generating power for the national grid.
Windfarm operators E On UK, which runs Powergen, announced that Britain's second biggest offshore windfarm 2.5km off the Norfolk coast was fully operational and commissioning environmentally friendly energy.
Wind energy associations congratulated the company on completing the £75m scheme - which has doubled the UK's offshore generating capacity and makes it the second largest offshore wind generator in the world after Denmark.
Wind power project of 30 Vesta 2mW wind generators will supply power for about 41,000 homes.
The turbines save the emission of 75,000 tons of carbon dioxide each year and Powergen can add another eight turbines if the first wave prove successful.
